We live in a hurry-up society where faster is better. If you look at successful people and their stories of how they created wealth it didn’t come over night; it took time. Some methods of amassing wealth take longer than others. If you are trying to get rich in the stock market be prepare to set a longer-time horizon as apposed to owning or starting a business. Given today’s market ups and downs it will probably take a lot longer to reach your goals using stocks than ever before; most millionaires didn’t go this route.

But, creating wealth can’t be done over night; it takes time and hard work. Here’s where I lose some people… they stop reading and move on to the next article in searching of the easy way.

While there’s nothing wrong with having money in the bank and a retirement plan with enough to live comfortably – or living in a nice house or driving a nice car – we can’t let the pursuit of wealth become a destructive obsession.

Financial Advisors will often say "there are two types of dollars in life, the ones you get from work and your dollars at work." Your dollars from work will give you a great life as long as you are paid a high salary or compensation, and as long as you are working. The reality of that is when you stop working your cash flow stops too. The cash flow that creates your standard of living comes from your working (exchanging your time and talents for money). There are only so many hours in a day and so many days in the week. God gives each of us the same 24 hours a day and it’s up to us how to best use them. Successful business people learn how to work smarter not harder.

In Creating Wealth you need to remember to stay focused and follow the basic rules. Equity & Appreciation; meaning you always want to build equity (ownership) and have the asset appreciate (grow over time) in value. Many of us loose site of this principle and spend our money on things that give us immediate gratification but go nowhere. We see in America today most people carrying a lot of consumer (non-residential mortgage) debt. They are simply spending more money than they bring home and this action destroys any chance of creating wealth.
