If you pay your bills for six months; just to keep your credit in good standings and you loose your home, what was the point: your credit will have a foreclosure on it any way.

Keep the money you would pay your credit cards with, and use it to pay your mortgage, food, clothing, and anything that is important to your families survival.  Protecting your assets in a recession is key to your financial recovery.
